Stainless steel differs from carbon steel due to the presence of chromium. It contains sufficient chromium to spontaneously form a microscopically thin surface film of chromium oxide by reaction with the oxygen in air and even the small amount of dissolved oxygen in water. This passive film prevents further corrosion by blocking oxygen diffusion to the steel surface and prevents corrosion from spreading into the bulk of the metal. This film is self-repairing if it is scratched or temporarily disturbed by an upset condition in the environment that exceeds the inherent corrosion resistance of that grade.Stainless steels are used where both the strength of steel and corrosion resistance are required.
Aluminium metal, when in quantity, is very shiny and resembles Silver. Another important characteristic of aluminium is its low density, Aluminium is a relatively soft, durable, lightweight, and malleable with appearance ranging from silvery to dull gray, depending on the surface roughness. It is non-magnetic and does not easily ignite.
A tough, malleable form of iron suitable for forging or rolling rather than casting, obtained by puddling pig iron while molten. It is nearly pure but contains some slag in the form of filaments.
Stick welding, is a manual arc welding process that uses a consumable electrode covered with a flux to lay the weld.
Mig welding process in which an electric arc forms between a consumable wire metal, which heats the metal, causing them to melt and join.
TIG welding is a method of welding in which the arc is maintained by a tungsten electrode and shielded from the access of air by an inert gas.
